DyeStat's Keenan Gray sits down with the newly minted top-two high school indoor milers of all-time Owen Powell of Mercer Island WA and Josiah Tostenson of Crater OR to talk about their historic evening at the Boston University Track on Friday, Feb. 21, where they both ran under Hobbs Kessler's high school national record time of 3 minutes, 57.66 seconds.

Powell first broke Kessler's time in the faster section of the mile at the BU Terrier DMR Challenge, running 3:56.66 before Tostenson followed him in the second section with a 3:57.47 effort, putting them both No. 1 and 2 all-time on the high school indoor list.

Both Powell and Tostenson discuss the significance of their achievements, while also looking forward to being teammates at the University of Washington next school year where they'll run for Owen's dad, Andy Powell, and be a part of a special group of Husky milers.

Powell and Tostenson also talk about what the rest of 2025 will look like for themselves, how they can put themselves in the same conversation as Washington legend Gerry Lindgren and Oregon legend Steve Prefontaine and if breaking Alan Webb's high school outdoor mile record is a possibility.
