Three-time NCAA champion Jadin O'Brien of Notre Dame has opened up about the debilitating PANDAS diagnosis that caused her to develop neuropsychiatric symptoms following a streptococcal infection. Commonly known as strep, the infection affects the throat and tonsils and it can spread elsewhere and cause serious complications. In O'Brien's case, it led to obsessive-compulsive disorder, tics, depression, sleep disturbances, motor or sensory problems and feelings of dread. Treatment for strep finally solved most of the problems and sports helped her gain new hope for the future and determination to show herself and others that it's possible to overcome enormous challenges.
