Bryce Hoppel, an adidas pro entered to compete in the 1,000 meters Saturday at the New Balance Grand Prix in Staten Island, N.Y., joins DyeStat editor Doug Binder to discuss the upcoming weekend and the possibility of breaking David Torrance's U.S. record of 2:16.76. In the same meet last year, Hoppel ran 2:17.41. Already this season, Hoppel has run the second-fastest indoor 800 meters in U.S. history with 1:44.37 at the American Track League meet No. 2 in Fayetteville, Ark. Hoppel also revisits how he got through the early stages of the COVID-19 pandemic with his family in Midland, Texas.
