Recap - Miami-Dade Fair - Dyestat -2013Published by
Belen Jesuit boys hang on against Sunset in Miami By Doug Binder, Dyestat editor The top two boys teams in Florida took part in the Miami-Dade Fair and Expo Invitational on Thursday in Miami, plus Daesha Rogers made her high school debut for her new school, Jackson. And given that it was 90 degrees with 94 percent humidity, it's easy to see why cross country isn't for the feint of heart in the Sunshine State. US#23 Belen Jesuit Prep pulled out a close victory over US#118 Sunset 44-42. Sunset had a 23-28 advantage through four but Belen Jesuit's fifth, sixth and seventh Michael Magoulis (14th), Bruno Zayas (17th) and Nicolas Roca (18th) all placed ahead of Sunset's fifth scorer. Junior Nick Diaz of Sunset won the race in 16:06.23. Katrina Santiago of Ferguson won the girls race in 19:27.75. Rogers, a ninth grader, is an age-group phenom who has competed at the high school level for three years already and won state titles four Class 2A track titles. She was third in the Class 2A cross country meet last fall. Rogers was fourth in her debut for Jackson, running 19:53.02. More news
