Western Branch still strongest in Virginia

State Meet Highlights - RESULTS

- The team dominance of Western Branch at the 6A level continued at Newport News, where the Bruins boys and girls both scored exactly 111.5 points to win team titles.

- Junior Lauryn Ghee of Grassfield had an outstanding meet, winning the 100 (11.56), 200 (23.57) and 400 (53.48) in an exceedingly deep field. She also jumped 5-6 to place second in the high jump.

- In a hotly contested girls 800 meters, Rachel McArthur of Patriot nosed out Lake Braddock superstar Kate Murphy 2:06.55 to 2:06.70. It was one of the best races from any state meet this spring.

- Do-it-all star Grant Holloway from Grassfield made his final imprint on the Virginia state meet by winning the 110 hurdles (13.78), the high jump (6-6) and the long jump (25-5.75). He was also second in the 200 (21.32) and DQ'd in the 300 hurdles.

- If there was any lack of energy in the 6A meet it may have been due to the lack of Lyles Brothers moments for T.C. Williams. Josephus Lyles injured his quadriceps muscle in May and was not able to compete and qualify for the state meet. Noah Lyles only ran in the prelims of the 100.
