Armand Duplantis led the Class 5A long jump for few minutes before finishing second and moving on to the sport he is well known for -- the pole vault.

Duplantis, a junior from Lafayette LA, took the lead in the long jump competition when he jumped 23 feet, 4.50 inches in the third round. Ja'Marr Bishop of Archbishop Rummel took the lead in the fifth round with 24-2.50 and went ont to win. Duplantis improved his PR to 23-5.75 on the way to second.

At the pole vault, Duplantis cleared 18-2.50 -- the highest vault ever at a state championship meet.

He raised the bar to 19-0.25 but was unable to clear it.

Duplantis owns the second highest vault in the world this year (19-4.25) and will compete against the global elite in less than two weeks at the Prefontaine Classic.
