Laura Thweatt Out of World Championships MarathonPublished by
Due to injury, Thweatt has withdrawn from August's MarathonBy Chris Lotsbom, Dyestat Editor Laura Thweatt has announced that she has withdrawn from her spot on Team USA’s IAAF World Championships Marathon team for this summer’s meet in London. Citing an osteitis pubis injury, Thweatt has chosen to play it safe and let her body recover. “I am shattered to report that last Friday I made the difficult decision to withdraw from the [USA] team for the upcoming London World Track and Field Championships. My injury of osteitis pubis has not settled as well as I would have liked since @londonmarathon and with the PRP injection, it requires more time and rest,” wrote Thweatt on Instagram. “With less than 10 weeks to go, I'm yet to run over 30 mins pain free and my team were concerned that I would need to take too many risks in such a short amount of time that may have consequences not only now, but long term also. I know this is the right decision as I would not be able to race to the best of my ability but the decision is still so difficult to accept as this was everything I wanted!” Thweatt has run two marathons — a stellar 2:28:23 debut in the fall of 2015 at the TCS New York City Marathon (placing seventh), and then a 2:25:38, sixth place at the Virgin Money London Marathon this spring. Thweatt has proven she’s a force in the 26.2-mile distance. Injuries like Thweatt’s are known to take a long time to recover from. Thweatt has already received support from countless American distance runners, including from Shalane Flanagan and Emily Infeld. There is no timetable for Thweatt’s return to racing at this point.
