Here are summaries of the quarterfinal meets:

WEST REGIONAL

Manvel TX 78.5, Rancho Verde CA 53.5

Texas won the first of the two semifinal matchups involving Texas and California schools. Rancho Verde came from behind in its two previous meets but could not do it a third time. Manvel had a 35-15 lead after the field events that only got bigger when the teams got to the track. Manvel swept the relays winning the 4x100 and 4x400 relays. The teams were close in the 11 track events, with Manvel winning six.

The Woodlands TX 73.5, Great Oak CA 62.5

The Texas UIL 6A champions had a nine-point lead (31.5 – 22.5) after the field events. It was an advantage that Great Oak could not overcome. The Woodlands won six of the 10 running events, including a 1-2 finish by Ethan Bonner and Seth Demerson in the 400.

EAST REGIONAL

Carmel IN 69, Edwardsville IL 63

The Indiana state champions came from behind for the win, advancing them to the regional finals. Edwardsville had the edge (31-14) after the field events. Carmel fought back starting with a win in the 4x800 relay. Edwardsville bounced back, led by the 1-2 finish in the 110 hurdles from Travis Anderson and Matt Griebe. Then, it was Carmel’s turn as they got wins by Ryan Lipe in the 100, Keelan Grant in the 1,600 and Spencer Gudgel in the 400. The Greyhounds grabbed the lead for good in the second-to-last event as Ben Miller led a sweep in the 3,200.

Franklin NJ 71, Hoover AL 70

The other Eastern Regional meet was even closer as Franklin needed a win in the final event to advance to the final four. Franklin led 32-31 after the field events. The lead traded places four times during the track session, with Hoover grabbing the lead 70-66 after sweeping the 3,200. Franklin responded by winning the 4x400 relay (3:13.38) by more than four seconds.
