Biomechanics Study To Be Conducted at World ChampionshipsPublished by
Researchers set to gather data at World Championships By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor The IAAF announced Thursday that a massive biomechanics study will be conducted behind the scenes at the World Championships in London. Leeds Beckett University has teamed with the IAAF to undertake a project that will analyze the movements, angles, velocities and more with 25 high-speed cameras and 15 HD camcorders. For instance, in the sprints, footage wil be collected to produce "3D biomechanical data of variables such as stride length, stride frequency, ground contact times, joint angles and velocities," according to the IAAF report. The effort is aimed at supporting athletes and coaches in order to improve training methods and performance. Initial findings will be presented at the IAAF World Coaches Conference on Aug. 7-10.
