Galen Rupp is USATF Athlete of the Week After Chicago Marathon WinBy Adam Kopet Galen Rupp was announced as USATF Athlete of the Week for his win Sunday at the Bank of America Chicago Marathon. Rupp pulled away from Kenya's Abel Kirui in the final miles to win in a personal-best 2:09:20. This was the first time since 2002 that an American won the men's race in Chicago. Entering the race, Kirui was the defending champion. He had previously won the IAAF World Outdoor Championships marathon and he finished as runner-up in the 2012 Olympic marathon. This was Rupp's first win in a major international race. He has never finished worse than third in a marathon in his four attempts at the distance. Rupp was also awarded the Editors' Choice DyeStat Performance of the Week this week for his Chicago Marathon win. More news |
