Michigan teams enter rankings after state meet By Adam Kopet, DyeStat Editor With 42 state meets now in the books, the national picture is becoming even more clear. The top two teams, Fayetteville-Manlius NY and Great Oak CA, continue to stand apart from the field, but Naperville North IL and Keller TX are deadlocked in the race for the third spot. Both teams won state meets last Saturday in dominating fashion. The surprise this week was the strong performance of multiple Michigan teams at the Lower Peninsula state meet. Troy (No. 21) and Northville (No. 29) both debut in the rankings this week. Girls in Michigan have been running fast all season, but this was the first time the top Michigan teams ran well through five runners. Eagle ID, after upsetting Mountain View ID at the Idaho state meet, also makes its debut, sitting at No. 20, the highest of the new teams. Other teams making first appearances this week include Niskayuna NY, Cardinal Gibbons NC and Zionsville IN. Two other teams return to the list. Battle Mountain CO and Edina MN. The Northwest and Midwest lead the nation with six teams each in the Top 30. Both regions will compete in Nike Cross Nationals qualifying events this weekend. New York contributes another five teams to the national rankings. The Heartland region, which also competes this weekend, has three teams. Top 30 1. Fayetteville-Manlius NY 2. Great Oak CA 3.
