Postcard from Portland: Xavier CT Boys Day 1 at Nike Cross NationalsPublished by
Day One: NXR Northeast champs make the trip West By Coach Chris Stonier for DyeStat Following our arrival at Bradley International early in the morning, we boarded with all seven boys. Our flight took off and we had a layover in Chicago. The layover was quick and painless, and we proceeded to get onto our final flight to Oregon. After Dillon and Will taking forever to get off the final plane, we were welcomed to Oregon with NXN signs and the Nike team manager (Shoutout to Joe Lanzalotto!) that had helped us set up our flight back at NXR in New York last Saturday. He guided us to a bus, and did a wonderful job bringing us to the Embassy Suites. We were all amazed by the hotel and it's humongous Nike sign in the lobby. The boys dropped everything in their coaches' hands and went for a run around the area (Washington Square). We had no clue where we were going, but the weather and climate of Portland felt like home. One can tell why the University of Oregon team is so fast because they have this beautiful place to train. After going the wrong direction multiple times, we made it back to the hotel. At day's end, we had traveled 3,007 miles, seven of which were on foot. Also on this busy day we established our prom challenge. More to come on this... In conclusion the day was stress free and one to remember with the boys. More news |
