Quijera secures men’s javelin title for host Spain, David produces personal best to capture women’s triple jump crown for France By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor Former Mississippi State star Nicolas Quijera and Florida junior standout Yanis David both captured gold medals June 27-30 at the 18th Mediterranean Games in Tarragona, Spain. Quijera, representing the host country, won the men’s javelin Saturday with a fourth-round throw of 246-6 (75.13m) to surpass Italy’s Roberto Bertolini at 245-5 (74.81m). David, competing for France, captured the women’s triple jump title Friday with a personal-best 46-5.25 (14.15m) in the fourth round. Italy’s Ottavia Cestonaro secured silver with a leap of 46-1.25 (14.05m). David and Quijera both placed second at the NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships, with David also adding a fourth-place finish in the long jump for the Gators. Quijera took runner-up to teammate Anderson Peters of Grenada with a personal-best throw June 6 of 263-2 (80.21m), with David finishing second June 9 to four-time Division 1 champion and three-time USATF Outdoor winner Keturah Orji of Georgia. David entered the meet with a PR of 46-4.25 (14.13m) from April, before improving the mark to 46-4.75 (14.14m) in the second round and then again in the fourth round. More news |
