London Among Three U.K. Cities Looking to Host 2027 IAAF World Outdoor Championships

London is throwing its hat into the ring to host the 2027 IAAF World Outdoor Championships, according to Matt Majendie of the Evening Standard.

London successfully hosted the championships at the 2012 Olympic stadium in 2017. This bid would potentially bring the championships back to the city only 10 years later.

However, London may not be the only suitor in the United Kingdom to host the 2027 event. Both Birmingham and Glasgow have been floated as host cities. Birmingham, in addition to hosting a Diamond League meeting each year, also hosted this year's IAAF World Indoor Championships.

The 2019 championships will take place in Doha, Qatar and the 2021 championships will be in Eugene, Ore. Host countries have not been announced for the 2023 or 2025 championships.
