Texas A&M's Lindon Victor Breaks Collegiate Decathlon Record at Texas RelaysBy Adam Kopet, DyeStat Editor Lindon Victor now stands atop the collegiate decathlon all-time list after his record-breaking performance Wednesday and Thursday at the 90th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays. His world-leading effort of 8,472 points broke Trey Hardee's 2006 record, also set at the Texas Relays. Victor used a big first day, the best ever by a collegian, to aid him in his second day of competition. His discus and javelin marks Thursday outdistanced Hardee's 2006 record marks. He threw the discus 172-10 (53.00m) and the javelin 218-9 (66.69m). Victor now owns three of the top 10 collegiate decathlon scores, according to Track and Field News. Hardee, whose old record stood at 8,465 points, was also in action this week, competing alongside Victor. However, the two-time World decathlon champion was unable to complete all the events. He did use his time on the field to cheer for and mentor the new record holder. Scott Filip of Rice finished second with 7,915 points and Wolf Mahler of Texas finished in third with 7,897 points.
