The King of the Sub-10 100 Meters Given Guinness Book of World Records HonorBy Adam Kopet, DyeStat Editor Asafa Powell, the former 100-meter world record holder from Jamaica, has broken 10 seconds in the 100 meters 97 times in his career. Now, in addition to being the most ever, Powell has earned a spot in the Guinness Book of World Records for the feat according to the Gleaner. The 34-year old has a personal best of 9.72 set in 2008. He preceded Usain Bolt as world record holder, having run 9.77 in 2005 and 9.74 in 2007. Bolt set the record in 2008. In addition to his records, Powell has earned IAAF World Championship bronze medals in 2007 and 2009. He has also won gold medals as part of the Jamaican 4x100 relay team. Powell is set to run Friday in the Doha Diamond League Meeting. He could stretch his record sub-10 to 98 times with a good performance and favorable conditions. More news |
