LSU's Mikiah Brisco Scares Collegiate 60-Meter Dash Record

Brisco regains collegiate lead from teammate Hobbs, nearly equals Cunliffe's standard

The collegiate leader in the women's 60-meter dash remained from LSU, only it was senior Mikiah Brisco nearly matching the NCAA indoor record Saturday at the New Mexico Indoor Classic instead of previous leader Aleia Hobbs.

Brisco clocked 7.08 seconds to equal the second-fastest indoor performance in Division 1 history. Only former Oregon star and reigning NCAA indoor champion Hannah Cunliffe has run faster, when she clocked 7.07 last year.

Brisco moved into a tie for the No. 13 American performer in history. She also matched Germany's Tatjana Pinto for the second-fastest time in the world this year, trailing only Murielle Ahoure of the Ivory Coast at 7.07.

LSU has the top three collegiate 60-meter performers in the country with Brisco, Hobbs (7.14) and junior Kortnei Johnson (7.18).

Ironwood Track Club's Colin Dunbar took over the world lead in the men's weight throw with a final-round effort of 77-4 (23.57m).

Trinidad and Tobago star Jereem Richards ran 20.52 in the men's 200 in his indoor debut Friday, elevating to No. 5 in the world this year.

Alabama freshman Daija Lampkin ran the No. 4 collegiate time Friday in the 200 by clocking 23.05. Lampkin also contributed Saturday to the Crimson Tide running the No. 8 time this season in the 4x400 with a 3:33.69 effort.

Alabama sophomore Shelby McEwen moved into a tie for fifth among collegiate performers in the men's high jump Friday, clearing 7-4.25 (2.24m).

Brittney Reese won the women's long jump Friday with a leap of 21-2 (6.45m). She ranks No. 7 in the world this year with her 21-6.75 (6.57m) from Jan. 27 at Texas Tech.

Jarrion Lawson and Marquis Dendy took the top two spots in the men's long jump Friday. Lawson equaled the No. 7 performer in the world this year with a leap of 26-1.75 (7.97m) and Dendy had an effort of 25-9.50 (7.86m). Dendy ranks second in the world this season at 26- (8.13m).

Canadian star Anicka Newell cleared 15 feet (4.57m) in the women's pole vault Saturday to tie for 20th in the world this season and took three attempts at her national indoor record of 15-5.50 (4.71m).

American Darrell Hill moved up to the No. 5 performer in the world this year Saturday with an effort of 68-4.25 (20.83m) in the shot put.

Alabama senior Ruebin Walters won the men's 60-meter hurdles Saturday in 7.64, just one-hundredth off his No. 2 performance in Division 1 this season. American Bridgette Owens won the women's 60 hurdles in 8.04.

Arkansas State senior Jaylen Bacon clocked 6.62 in the men's 60-meter dash to equal the No. 7 collegiate performer this year.
