Severna Park Sweeps Class 4A Team Championships By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor The Severna Park cross country program enjoyed a big day at Hereford High on Saturday as the boys and girls teams both won Maryland Class 4A state championships. The boys won for the second year in a row, with a top trio going 4-5-8 on the way to 48 points. Northwood, led by the 1-2 finish of Obsaa Feda (15:44.05) and Eldad Mulugeta (15:44.29), was second with 120 points. Feda and Mulugeta ran together and were 18 seconds ahead of the next group of challengers. Mulugeta ran more than half the race with one shoe after one of them got clipped early in the race, according to the Washington Post. Severna Park's girls scored 102 points and held off Howard (125) for the team title, ending a five-year run for Walter Johnson High. A pair of sophomores, Bronwyn Patterson of South River (19:06.19) and Charlotte Turesson of Richard Montgomery (19:18.84), went 1-2 in the 4A girls race. 4A RESULTS Sophomore Oakley Olson of Huntingtown ran 18:59.6 to win the Class 3A title. She beat Claudia Dolan of Northern by about 12 seconds. Northern won the team title with 56, edging out Bel Air (68). Centennial won the 3A boys team title with 87 points.
