Versatile Coronado Talent Alysah Hickey Headed to University of OregonPublished by
California state long jump champion excited about college homecoming, having competed with Step Ur Game Up Track Club during career, along with grandparents living in Portland By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor Coronado CA senior Alysah Hickey, the only female athlete in the country this past year to produce a wind-legal mark under 12 seconds in the 100-meter dash, clear at least 5 feet, 10 inches in the high jump and achieve a 20-foot effort in the long jump, has decided to attend the University of Oregon. It will be a homecoming of sorts for Hickey, the reigning California state champion in the long jump and fourth-place finisher in the high jump, who has competed throughout her prep career for the Oregon-based Step Ur Game Up Track Club since her grandparents live in Portland. Hickey produced a career-best wind-legal long jump of 20-0.50 (6.10m) at Summit High in Bend competing July 8 at the USATF Region 13 Junior Olympic Championships, her final meet of the year. She ranks No. 13 in the country among returning athletes eligible to compete in 2019. Hickey also boasts a personal-best 5-10 in the high jump, again No. 13 nationally among returning athletes, and has run a wind-legal 11.87 seconds in the 100. Hickey is scheduled to join hurdler Tia Jones of George Walton Comprehensive GA and sprinter/jumper Alisha Wilson of Tahoma WA among the standouts in the Ducks’ latest recruiting class. More news |
