After a Year Away From Portland, Matthew Centrowitz Joins Bowerman Track ClubBy Adam Kopet Matthew Centrowitz spent six years with the Nike Oregon Project under coach Alberto Salazar. After a year away from Portland, Centrowitz has announced he has joined the Bowerman Track Club.
Centrowitz saw great success on the world stage with the Oregon Project. He won global titles at 1,500 meters at the 2016 Olympic Games and the 2016 IAAF World Indoor Championships. The former was the first time since 1908 that an American had won the men's 1,500 at the Olympics. Centrowitz also earned silver at the 2013 IAAF World Outdoor Championships and has captured six USATF Championships titles. After spending much of 2018 on the east coast, Centrowitz moved to Seattle last fall to serve as a volunteer assistant with the Washington cross country team. He also officially left the Oregon Project. However, Centrowitz had no Nike teammates to train with in Seattle. Earlier this week, speculation grew that Centrowitz had joined the Bowerman Track Club after a photo showed him running with several Bowerman Track Club members, including Marc Scott. Centrowitz made it official Friday, signifying that he would run for the Bowerman Track Club and be coached by Jerry Schumacher. Both the Bowerman Track Club and the Oregon Project are based on the Nike campus in Beaverton, Ore. More news |
