Christian Coleman to Double in 100 and 200 Meters at USATF Outdoor ChampionshipsPublished by
Christian Coleman to Double at USATF Outdoor Championships and BeyondBy Adam Kopet Gene Cherry of Reuters reports Christian Coleman will compete in the 100 and 200 meters at the USATF Outdoor Championships this summer. Assuming Coleman qualifies in both events, he expects to run the 100 and 200 meters at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships, which begin at the end of September in Doha, Qatar. Coleman has made himself best known as a short sprinter in his short professional career. He broke the world record in the 60 meters in the 2018 indoor season. He also won the IAAF World Indoor Championships. Prior to that, Coleman chose to only contest the 100 meters at the 2017 IAAF World Outdoor Championships, where he earned a silver medal. He had qualified for the U.S. team in both sprint races, but dropped the 200 meters due to his long collegiate season at Tennessee. During the 2018 outdoor season, Coleman wanted to run both the 100 and 200 throughout the season, but a hamstring injury hampered his training and he stuck with the shorter race. Despite the injury, he ran a world-leading and personal-best 9.79 to win the Diamond League 100 final at the end of the season. The USATF Outdoor Championships are scheduled for July 25-28 in Des Moines, Iowa. More news |
