Matthew Boling Blasts 9.98w 100 Meters at Regional; DeSoto TX Girls Clock 4x100 Relay In 44.44

At a pair of regional meet in Texas, national news was made with two sensational sprint performances.

Matthew Boling of Houston Strake Jesuit ran a wind-aided time of 9.98 seconds at the Texas UIL Region 3 meet for the fastest 100-meter dash ever run under any conditions by a high school male athlete. It is slightly faster than the 9.99 that Trayvon Bromell ran in 2013.

"It definitely felt better than last week. I pushed a lot harder at the end because I knew it would be fast," Boling said. "My start was decent. It felt a little awkward, but I got out well. It definitely means a lot to me to run the fastest all conditions time. Even though it’s wind-aided, it just felt really special to see that 9.98 on the board and gives me confidence that I can run it when the wind is gone."

DeSoto TX ran 44.44 in the girls 4x100 relay at the UIL Region 1 meet. That broke the national high school record of 44.50 by Long Beach Poly CA, from the 2004 Penn Relays.

The quartet of Ja'Era Griffin, Jayla Hollis, Taylor Armstrong and Rosaline Effiong ran 44.65 in the meet prelims and then came back to go even faster in the final. RESULTS
