Where College Conferences Stand On Fall Sports

NCAA Division I

Note: The cancellation of the NCAA Cross Country Championships now seems imminent with more than 50 percent of conferences deciding not to operate sports this fall. 

Conferences that have canceled fall sports as of 8/27: 27 out of 31

The NCAA is granting an extra year of eligibility to all fall sports athletes due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

America East Conference

Status: Fall sports postponed

American Athletic Conference

Status: Cross country has joined soccer and volleyball in being postponed to align with the new NCAA championship season. 

Atlantic 10 Conference

Status: Fall Sports postponed

Atlantic Coast Conference

Status: Cross country delayed until Sept. 14.

Atlantic Sun Conference

Status: Fall semester sports are postponed. 

Big 12 Conference

Status: Fall sports are still on.

Big East Conference

Status: No fall sports for 2020.

Big Sky Conference

Status: Fall sports are canceled. 

Big South Conference

Status: Fall sports are canceled.

Big Ten Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed. (8/11)

Big West Conference

Status: Fall Sports canceled.

Colonial Athletic Association

Status: Member schools can make their own determination whether to proceed with fall sports, but conference competition is canceled.

Conference USA

Status: Fall sports except for football are postponed until 2021. 

Horizon League

Status: Fall sports have been canceled.

Ivy League

Status: Fall Sports canceled

Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports canceled

Mid-American Conference

Status: Fall sports, including football season, is canceled. The MAC may try to place these sports into the spring. MAC is the first FBS conference to make this announcement and postpone football.

Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports canceled.

Missouri Valley Conference

Status: Fall sports are postponed until 2021.

Mountain West Conference

Status: Fall sports are postponed indefinitely. (8/10)

Northeast Conference

Status: Fall sports are postponed and the Council of Presidents will reconvene Oct. 1.

Ohio Valley Conference

Status: Fall sports are postponed.

Pac-12 Conference

Status: Fall sports are postponed. (8/11)

Patriot League

Status: Fall Sports canceled.

Southeastern Conference

Status: Fall sports are delayed until Sept. 26 and will use a conference-only schedule for football. Start dates for other sports, including cross country, are yet to come. 

  

Southern Conference

Status: Fall sports postponed.

Southland Conference

Status: Fall sports are postponed until 2021.

Southwestern Athletic Conference

Status: Fall sports are postponed until 2021.

Sun Belt Conference

Status: Fall sports are delayed until Sept. 3. 

Summit League

Status: Fall Sports are postponed.

West Coast Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed.

Western Athletic Conference

Status: Fall sports are canceled.

 

NCAA Division 2

Fall championships are canceled for Division II and III

California Collegiate Athletic Association

Status: The CCAA was the first college conference to cancel fall sports for 2020.

Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association

Status: Fall sports canceled.

Conference Carolinas

Status: Fall sports are postponed until spring.

East Coast Conference

Status: Fall Sports canceled.

Great American Conference

Status: Fall Sports are suspended through the end of 2020. 

Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are suspended through the end of 2020.

Great Lakes Valley Conference

Status: Cross country will be allowed to continue in the fall, while all other sports are postponed until 2021.

Great Midwest Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are mostly postponed, but cross country is expected to continue this fall. 

Great Northwest Athletic Conference

Status: Fall sports are suspended until Nov. 30.

Gulf South Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed until 2021, but cross country and golf will compete in the fall.

Lone Star Conference

Status: Cross country will continue in the fall, while most other fall sports are postponed.

Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association

Status: Fall Sports are suspended for the rest of 2020 but a few competitions may still happen.

Mountain East Conference

Status: Falls Sport are postponed until 2021. The conference has also canceled the 2020-21 indoor track championships. 

Northeast-10 Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference

Status: Fall Sports are suspended through the end of 2020.

Pacific West Conference

Status: Fall Sports postponed until 2021.

Peach Belt Conference

Status: Cross country, golf and tennis are allowed to proceed in the fall.

Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference

Status: Cross country is the only sport allowed to compete this fall. 

South Atlantic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled. 

Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

Sunshine State Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed to 2021.

 

NCAA D3

Fall championships are canceled.

Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference

Status: Fall sports are canceled.

American Rivers Conference

Status: Conference-only competition will move forward; schedules yet to be released.

American Southwest Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed until 2021.

Atlantic East Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed.

Capital Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed, with the possibility open for individual schools to schedule contests and for some sports to move into next spring. 

Centennial Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled, with a later evaluation to determine the feasbility of moving some sports to the spring. 

City University of New York Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled, some may move to the spring. 

College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin

Status: Fall Sports are postponed.

Colonial States Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled, with a later evaluation to determine the feasbility of moving some sports to the spring. 

Commonwealth Coast Conference

Status: No sports through the end of 2020. 

Empire 8 Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed.

Great Northeast Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed.

Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled. 

Landmark Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

Liberty League

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

Little East Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

Middle Atlantic Conference

Status: Fall Sports canceled.

Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports canceled.

Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association

Status: Fall Sports are suspended until 2021.

Midwest Conference

Status: Fall Sports canceled.

Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed until 2021.

New England Collegiate Conference

Status: Fall Sports are suspended at the conference level, with a possibility remaining that some schools could find some contests if it is deemed safe.

New England Small College Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are suspended at the conference level, with a possibility remaining that some schools could find some contests if it is deemed safe.

New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

New Jersey Athletic Conference

Status: Fall sports canceled.

North Atlantic Conference

Status: Fall Sports canceled.

North Coast Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

North Eastern Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference

Status: Fall Sports postponed.

Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

Status: While some fall sports are canceled, cross country has a chance to continue if member schools can adhere to state guidelines.

Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports postponed.

State University of New York Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

University Athletic Association

Status: Fall Sports are canceled.

Upper Midwest Athletic Conference

Status: Fall Sports are postponed until 2021.

USA South Athletic Conference

Status: Fall sports are postponed until 2021

Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference

Status: Fall sports are canceled

 

NAIA

The NAIA has decided to postpone most fall sports until 2021. The national championships for men's and women's cross country will be April 21, 2021 at Seminole Valley Park in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
