Elite Runners Win Big In Open Track Races At Garden State Track Club High School Fall Showcase By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Officially, the New Jersey high school cross country season doesn't begin until Oct. 1. But Saturday on the track at Thomas Edison Park, the Garden State Track Club put on a meet that drew a few of the top runners in the northeast for their first racing experiences since March. North Carolina State commit Brooke Rauber, a senior at Tully NY and the USATF Junior Women's Cross Country Champion, won the 5,000-meter open track race in 16:32.7. Rauber, seventh at Nike Cross Nationals last year, was 26 seconds up on Chloe Scrimgeour at the finish. Scrimgeour is a senior at Conard CT. Gavin Sherry, a junior at Conard CT who placed 14th at the Foot Locker Nationals finals last December, won the boys race in 14:43.2. His twin brother Callum ran a strong 15:12.6 for second.
