Nathan Moore Dips Under 15 Minutes At Fortress Obetz

Nathan Moore, a senior at Lake (Uniontown), completed an undefeated regular season with a sensational time of 14:59.5 at a new venue, Fortress Obetz, to win the Division 1 race at the Ohio state cross country championships on Saturday. 

Moore, who was second last year, ran to a dominating 27-second victory. His time was five seconds shy of Andrew Jordan's 2015 meet record. 

Lakota West slipped past Xavier (Cincinnati) to capture a very tight team race, 73-75. 

Centerville got a big push up front with a 1-2 finish from sophomore Mia Robillard (17:58.5) and senior Emma Bucher (17:59.8). They helped the Elks beat runner-up Hilliard Davidson, 128-138, for the state championship.

Grace Hartman of Oakwood edged out Ella Gilson of Hawken, 18:04.1 to 18:04.2, to capture the girls individual title in Division 2. Third-place finisher Halle Hamilton from Lexington led her to team to the title with 113 points. 

Ryan Champa added a team championship to the individual glory after winning the Division 2 boys race in 15:42.9. His Woodridge boys scored 113 points to win the championship.

Thomas Caputo from Fredericktown won the Division 3 boys race in 15:31.5. The East Canton boys won a nail-biter over Summit Country Day, 126-131.

Freshman Caleigh Richards from Maplewood enjoyed a successful day at her first state meet, winning the Division 3 girls race in 18:22.3. West Liberty Salem beat traditional power Minster, 55-83, to win the team championship.
