Norman holds off Bracy, Oliver prevails against Richardson, with Awotunde and London III also U.S. athletes earning victories at Meeting Citta di Padova By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor The depth of American sprinting was on display Sunday at the annual Meeting Citta di Padova, with Michael Norman and Javianne Oliver earning 100-meter victories over their U.S. rivals at the Continental Tour Bronze event at the Daciano Colbacchini Stadium. Norman prevailed in 9.97 seconds into a slight headwind, holding off Marvin Bracy (9.98), Ronnie Baker (10.10) and Justin Gatlin (10.17), along with sixth-place Mike Rodgers (10.34). Oliver edged Sha’Carri Richardson, with both competitors clocking 11.19 into a headwind, followed by Candace Hill (11.26) and English Gardner (11.36). Jamaican athlete Briana Williams was fifth in 11.44, followed by Dezerea Bryant (11.47). Wil London III won the men’s 400 in 45.22, with Italy’s Edoardo Scotti placing second in 45.58. American Aldrich Bailey Jr. secured seventh in 46.31. Josh Awotunde was the only American competitor to triumph in any field event, securing victory in the men’s shot put with an effort of 72-2.25 (22.00m). Jamaica’s Stephenie Ann McPherson prevailed in the women’s 400 in 50.78, with authorized neutral athlete Polina Miller of Russia placing second in 50.96. American athletes Quanera Hayes (51.59) and Kaylin Whitney (52.22) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Australian competitor Stewart McSweyn won the men’s 1,500 in 3:33.49, with Poland’s Michal Rozmys securing second in 3:34.13. Aleksandra Gulyayeva, an authorized neutral athlete from Russia, won the women’s 800 in 1:59.57, followed by Germany’s Christina Hering in 1:59.78. American Chanelle Price took third in 2:00.38. Jamaica’s Ronald Levy, the Olympic bronze medalist, won the men’s 110-meter hurdles running into a headwind in 13.34, with Italy’s Paolo Dal Molin second in 13.45. American athlete Michael Dickson finished fourth in 13.74. British athlete Cindy Sember clocked 13.01 into a headwind in the women’s 100-meter hurdles, followed by American competitors Payton Chadwick (13.08), Taliyah Brooks (13.26), Gabbi Cunningham (13.48) and North Carolina A&T standout TeJyrica Robinson (13.64). Maryna Bekh-Romanchuk of Ukraine won the women’s long jump with a wind-legal 21-11.75 (6.70m) effort. Brooks placed fifth with a wind-aided leap of 20-7.75 (6.29m). Anzhelika Sidorova, an authorized neutral athlete from Russia and the Olympic silver medalist, prevailed in the women’s pole vault with a 15-5 (4.70m) clearance. Jamaica’s Shanieka Ricketts, the fourth-place finisher in Tokyo, won the women’s triple jump with a wind-legal performance of 48-4.50 (14.74m). More news |
