Action kicked off with the girls Varsity 1 race, which was to feature the Northeast #1 ranked Ridgewood, but the New Jersey school decided to delay running its full lineup. That left the competition for the team title wide open. John Jay (East Fishkill) NY, led by race winner Amelie Guzman took advantage of Ridgewood’s absence to take the team title by four points over Somers (NY) 55-59. Guzman took the lead from the gun and went wire to wire for the win in 20:08.8 over the hilly 5,000-meter course.

The Boys Varsity 1 saw the first big team showdown of the day as New York’ #1 Corning-Painted Post dominated the field placing four runners in the top 10 and all seven of its runners in the top 20 for the 34-46 win over NJ #6 Haddonfield. The Northeast Region's #5 ranked team, Ridgefield CT  finished seventh seventh with its runners crossing in a group between 39-45th place. Corning was led by the Jack Gregorski, who is currently US#28 in the DyeStat Top 30, who won the race in the days fastest time of 16:12.6

Claire Daniels and Sydney Kelleher gave New Milford CT at 1-2 finish in the Girls Varsity 2 race with Daniels running the day's fastest time of 19:09.9, but that was not enough to hold off Haddonfield NJ, which took top team honors 61-67 over New Milford.

The final varsity race of the day saw teams that year in and year out are among the best in their states.  Christian Brothers Academy NJ placed three runners in the top 10 and all five scorers in the top 20 to beat Xavier CT 59- 96. Coming into the weekend CBA was No. 2 and Xavier No. 3 in the Northeast region. Up front Nikhil Denatale and Ronan Luff went 1-2 for Trinity of Manhattan, with Denatale getting the win in 16:16.7.

The next major interstate clash will be in two weeks when the Manhattan Invitational returns to Van Cortlandt Park in New York City.
