Spaniards Mariano Garcia, Adel Meschaal Break National Records at New Balance Indoor Grand Prix

Gabriela DeBues-Stafford Breaks Canadian 3,000m Record; Will Sumner Runs No. 2 All-Time Prep 800

The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix turned into a a showcase for Spain, with two national records and three wins coming out of Sunday's meet at Ocean Breeze in Staten Island. 

Mariano Garcia defeated American Bryce Hoppel to win the men's 800 meters in a dominant 1:45.12 for a world-leading time and national record. Hoppel was second in 1:46.08. 

High schooler Will Sumner from Woodstock, Ga., who has torched national high school records in the 500 and 600 meters this winter, placed sixth and ran the second-fastest prep time ever in the 800, with 1:48.14.

In a fast men's 3,000 meters with an international flavor, Adel Mechaal broke the Spanish national record as well as the European record on the way to winning in 7:30.82. Third-place finisher Luis Grijalva, a former Northern Arizona star representing Guatemala, broke another national record with 7:37.42.

The top American, Mason Ferlic, was ninth.

Spain's Esther Guerrero won the women's 1,500 meters in 4:11.87.

Gabriela Debues-Stafford broke the Canadian national record in the women's 3,000 meters, where she registered a winning time of 8:33.92. American Josette Norris was third with a personal-best 8:37.91, also trailing runner-up Mekides Abebe of Ethiopia (8:36.31).

Grant Holloway won the men's 60-meter hurdles in a world-leading time of 7.37 seconds and was followed by Americans Trey Cunningham (7.47), Devon Allen (7.51) and Daniel Roberts (7.60).

Mikiah Brisco overtook Destiny Smith-Barnett midway through the women's 60-meter final and won it with a world-leading 7.07 seconds. Jamaica's Briana Williams was second with 7.11.

Noah Lyles ran a personal best 60-meter time of 6.56 to win the men's dash. 

Natoya Goule of Jamaica won the women's 800 meters in a world-leading time of 1:59.62.

Trayvon Bromell won the men's 200 meters in 20.64 seconds, beating Jamaica's Christopher Taylor (20.81). 

Donald Scott won the men's triple jump with a sixth-round mark of 54-8.75 (16.68m). He went into the final round of jumps tied with Bermuda's Jahnhai Perinchief, who finished second at 54-3.75 (16.55m). Will Claye took third with 54-0 (16.46m).

Great Britain's Lorraine Ugen won the women's long jump with 22-0.25 (6.71m), a season's best. American Quanesha Burks was second with 21-10 (6.65m).

Ireland's Andrew Coscoran won the men's mile in 3:53.64.

Jereem Richards of Trinidad and Tobago won the men's 400 meters in 45.83, beating Vernon Norwood of the U.S., who was second in 46.06.

Gabby Thomas won the women's 300 meters in 36.21.

Jessica Beard ran 52.88 to win the women's 400. 

Danielle Williams of Jamaica won the women's 60-meter hurdles in 7.83 seconds. 

Gavin Sherry from Conard, Ct. won his second straight big-meet mile, taking the Junior Boys Mile with a season's best and US#2 4:05.10. Marco Langon from Bridgewater, N.J. was second in 4:07.18.

Ellie Shea of Belmont, Mass. rebounded from a DNF at the Millrose Games to win the Junior Girls Mile in US#5 4:48.60. 

Notre Dame Academy NY ran US#3 4:15.07 to win the CHSAA Girls Sprint Medley.
