South Carolina Standout Runs 10.17w For 100 Meters Title; Laila Campbell Wins Close Girls 100 In 11.56w

By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor

T'Mars McCallum checked his first box Saturday at New Balance Nationals at Franklin Field in Philadelphia by winning the 100 meters, but he's not done.

McCallum, who ran a US#1 wind-legal time in the 100 meters of 10.13 at the South Carolina state championships meet back on May 20, won the 100-meter final at NBNO in 10.17w. The breezy backstretch used for the sprints had a wind reading of +5.4 m/s.

The senior from Carolina Forest High qualified for Sunday's final in the 200 meters and also has the long jump on the final day of the meet. He won four events at the South Carolina state meet and is used to staying busy at championship meets.

"Going to continue to rest, going to eat good, hopefully, and continue to do the best that I can," McCallum said.

In addition the gusty wind, the 100 final lost a bit of its luster when Archbishop Carroll DC standout Nyckoles Harbor II flinched in the blocks and was disqualified with a false start. Harbor ran the fastest time in the 200-meter prelims and will be back Sunday to challenge McCallum.
