DyeStat National Boys Dual Meet Championship 2022 - Regional Finals SummariesPublished by
By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Here are the summaries of the regional finals matchups: First-round summaries: BOYS | GIRLS Second-round summaries: BOYS | GIRLS Regional semifinal summaries: BOYS | GIRLS WEST REGIONAL Humble Summer Creek TX 99, Desert Vista AZ 37 The Texas 6A champions proved beyond any doubt that they belong in the national finals with a thorough defeat of the Arizona Division 1 champions. In the relays and throwing events, alone, Summer Creek had a 28-0 advantage. In the sprints (100-200-400), Summer Creek outscored Desert Vista 26-1. The overall strength of the Bulldogs team has come into focus. The only weakness is in the two distance events, where Desert Vista's crew managed 1-2-3 sweeps in both events. Those 18 points accounted for nearly half of Desert Vista's total. The combination of Darius Rainey (400/800), Donovan Bradley (110H/300H), Justin Craft (shot put), Aaron Davis (long jump/hurdles), Darius Cook (high jump/triple jump) and a 3:09.92 4x400 relay is nearly impossible to match at the high school level. Summer Creek could become the second boys team from Texas, and first since the Adrian Piperi-led Highlanders from The Woodlands, to win the national dual meet title. (The two Houston-area schools are separated by less than 30 miles). Piperi, by the way, is now a member of the U.S. track and field team that will compete at the World Championships. Meanwhile, Summer Creek's Rainey is in the relay pool for the U.S. U20 team that will compete in Cali, Colombia in August, as is 2021 graduate Kevin Grubbs.
EAST REGIONAL Hoover AL 74, Shiloh GA 67 A dual meet between the best teams in Alabama and Georgia would have been a sight to behold. The points were roughly split down the middle in 15 of 17 contested events. Shiloh produced a 1-2-3 sweep of the 300-meter hurdles, led by Christian Baker. And Hoover swept the pole vault with a 1-2-3 finish topped by 16-foot jumpers Collin Pate and Carter Ellis, and Connor White (15-0). Shiloh won the 4x100 relay and Hoover won the 4x400 3:15.54 to 3:15.81. Since both schools competed in the 4x800 at their state meets, that event was scored as well, with Hoover coming out on top by five seconds. Shiloh took first place in nine events, Hoover in eight. The Alabama champions went 1-2 in the 800 meters, with Elijah Joseph and Cannon Peters finishing just ahead of Shiloh's Nathan Solomon. Shiloh got a 1-2 finish from juniors Bryce Southerland and George Benjamin in the 110-meter hurdles. The Buccaneers of Hoover advance to the national final for a record third time, all since 2018.
