Echohawk reverses outcome from UIAAA Invitational in rematch against Heninger, with Herriman boys holding off Mountain View; Mecham rolls to impressive win, leading four American Fork girls in top 20 to prevail against Lone Peak

Tayson Echohawk of Orem earned a measure of revenge against Mountain View’s Liam Heninger on Saturday at the Timpanogos Invitational, with the Herriman boys cross country team producing a statement victory in a gathering of the elite Utah programs at the Lakeside Sports Complex in Orem.

Avalon Mechman, like Echohawk, also rebounded from a setback at the UIAAA Invitational a week earlier and showcased an impressive performance on the 5-kilometer layout to lead American Fork to victory in the girls varsity elite competition.

Mecham ran 18 minutes, 29.6 seconds and American Fork had four athletes finish in the top 20 to triumph with 84 points. Freshman Sophie Steiger was a significant contributor, earning eighth in 19:25.4.

Lone Peak, led by Boston Bybee (19:17.3) and Addie Meldrum (19:23.0) placing sixth and seventh, was second with 109 points.

Timpanogos, which had Raygan Peterson secure second in 18:45.1, took third with 128 points and Corner Canyon was fourth with 153 points.

Mountain View, which grabbed ninth with 261 points, was led by Julie Moore taking third in 18:56.7 and Mari Konold finishing fifth in 19:08.7.

Shelby Jensen placed fourth in 19:06.6 for Westlake, which earned fifth with 212 points.

Echohawk bounced back following a one-second loss to Heninger at the UIAAA Invitational at the Spanish Fork Sports Complex, holding on for victory Saturday in the rematch by a 15;24.2 to 15:25.0 margin.

Danny Simmons, a transfer from Idaho, took third for American Fork in 15:41.9.

William Horne finished fourth in 15:42.2 and Noah Jenkins placed ninth in 15:57.6 for Herriman, which had five athletes in the top 50 overall to prevail with 105 points.

Heninger helped Mountain View, which also had Parker Barnes secure seventh in 15:54.2, take second with 125 points.

Despite not having an athlete finish in the top 10, Riverton was third with 136 points. Samuel Ghiz led the Silverwolves, producing a 12th-place effort in 16:08.5.

Simmons led American Fork to a fourth-place performance with 144 points, followed closely by Corner Canyon with 146 points. Jeff Lewis was 11th for the Chargers in 16:03.9.

JoJo Jourdon finished fifth in 15:44 for Olympus, which earned 10th with 288 points.

Austin Westfall supported Echohawk by securing sixth in 15:49.0, contributing to Orem grabbing seventh with 214 points.

Jaron Hartshorn earned eighth in 15:56.4 for Lone Peak, which achieved a sixth-place effort with 211 points.

Michael Ballard of Copper Hills won the boys varsity race in 16;43.6, with Stansbury producing a 62-91 victory over Brighton, which had Vance Langston take second in 16:50.9.

Lia Belle Selander of Brighton won the girls varsity race in 20:08.6, leading her team to a 36-88 triumph against Stansbury.
