Three-time University of Arizona All-American and member of the HOKA ONE ONE Aggies reigning USATF Club Cross Country women's national championship team Claire Green joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss her recent partnership with RUNGRL.co and contributing to "The Relay" platform, along with fellow African-American distance standout Marielle Hall of Bowerman Track Club. In addition to collaborating with Hall as a professional athlete, Green also shares how inspirational the former Texas All-American has been in her development as a distance runner, reflecting on Hall's 5,000-meter victory at the 2014 Stanford Invitational as a significant moment in providing Green the confidence to compete at the collegiate level. She also revisits the "Black Lives Matter" protests that took place in San Luis Obispo, Calif., where Green trains with the Aggies, in addition to where her parents both went to college at Cal Poly. Green also expresses how important African-American history and education have been throughout her upbringing, including lessons learned from her grandmother who attended Florida A&M University. She also examines how important the platforms of inclusivity and diversity have been for HOKA ONE ONE, especially the Aggies, which she had the opportunity to talk about during a June interview with Aaron Potts, the host of the "2 Black Runners" podcast and editor of the "Running Report." Green looks back on a pair of 2019 highlights, including the Aggies setting the all-time course record in the Bay to Breakers centipede 12-kilometer race, as well as capturing the USATF Club Cross Country national team title in December at Lehigh University in Pennsylvania. She also speaks about her disappointment after hearing the news that Nike Cross Nationals would be canceled this December in Oregon after helping Monarch High, competing as Louisville XC Club, place fifth in 2013 at Portland Meadows, in addition to sharing memories from one of her favorite collegiate races at the 2017 NCAA Division 1 Cross Country Championships, where she secured 24th in the 6-kilomete race in Louisville, Ky., to earn All-America honors, along with being the top African-American women's finisher.
