For the first time in prep history, all four class record holders in the girls outdoor pole vault have surpassed 14 feet and they join DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss the most exceptional four-year stretch ever showcased in the event and what the future holds in 2021. National high school outdoor record holder Leah Pasqualetti of Orchard Park, N.Y., national junior class record holder Paige Sommers of Westlake High in California, national sophomore class record holder Lianne Kistler of Ballard High in Washington and national freshman class record holder Amanda Moll of Capital High in Washington all rank in the top 10 all-time among outdoor high school vaulters, and all four are among the top 15 outdoor performers in the U.S. this year. Pasqualetti and Sommers reflect on their summer journeys and how much they improved both as vaulters and overall athletes, with Kistler and Moll both looking forward to their final outdoor competition of the year at the Northwest Pole Vault Club August Invitational. Kistler and Moll both examine the culture and energy at the Washington-based Northwest Pole Vault Club under coach Tim Reilly, and the pride that comes with being the only club in the U.S. to produce three 14-foot vaulters, along with West Seattle High graduate and national indoor record holder Chloe Cunliffe. Pasqualetti expresses her pride over representing Erie County, which is the only county in the U.S. to produce three 14-foot vaulters, along with Lancaster graduate Mary Saxer and former Iroquois standout Tiffany Maskulinski. Moll speaks about the experience of vaulting with her twin sister, Hana, a rising sophomore at Capital, who is one of four Northwest Pole Vault Club athletes currently above 13 feet, along with rising junior Allison Neiders of Holy Names Academy. Sommers, one of three California girls high school athletes to clear 14 feet, shares how inspiring it is to be part of the pursuit of the first 15-foot clearance by a prep female vaulter and how significant it would be not only for the event, but for women's athletics overall. They all convey gratitude for being able to train and compete during the Coronavirus pandemic and the significance of all being ranked among the top American vaulters this year, with Pasqualetti at No. 5 at 14-8.25 (4.48m), Sommers at No. 8 at 14-6 (4.42m), Moll at No. 9 at 14-3.75 (4.36m) and Kistler at No. 13 at 13-9 (4.19m), just off her personal-best 14-1 (4.29m) from last year's sophomore record.
