Hansons Brooks Original Distance Project professional athlete Natosha Rogers, the reigning USATF women's cross country national champion and the 2017 USATF Half Marathon winner, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss running a lifetime-best 31:12.28 and earning the Olympic standard in the 10,000 meters Dec. 5 at the Sound Running Track Meet in Southern California. Rogers reflects on winning the 2012 NCAA Division 1 title in the 10,000 and then placing second at the Olympic Trials by running 31:59.21, but missing out on competing in the Olympics because she didn't have the 'A' standard of 31:45, resulting in fourth-place Lisa Uhl and seventh-place Janet Bawcom being able to race in London instead. She talks about returning to the sport last year after taking time away in 2018 and the reassurance she gained from winning the 10-kilometer title in 35:45 at the USATF Cross Country Championships in January in San Diego, followed by a second-place finish in 49:50 in March at the USATF 15km Road Running Championships in Florida. Rogers expresses her desire to continue road racing and her goal of winning the USATF circuit, in addition to competing in shorter distances in an effort to improve her speed in preparation to close strong the final mile of the 10,000 at the Olympic Trials in June. She also shares recovering from low iron and ferritin levels after competing in the Michigan Pro Ekiden in October and helping Hansons Brooks Original Distance Project place second overall behind HOKA ONE ONE Northern Arizona Elite, and being able to improve more than a minute from her 10,000 performance in August at the Under Armour Sunset Tour meet in California. Rogers also revisits a near-death experience during cross training when a 500-pound chest was lifted into the water by strong winds while she was swimming laps in the pool and missed striking her by only inches. She looks forward to the opportunity to race Molly Huddle, Emily Sisson and new American 10-mile record holder Keira D'Amato in the 10,000 at the Olympic Trials, if not earlier, in 2021.
