Jade Kwinn, a recent graduate of Sabino High in Tucson and Northern Arizona signee, joins DyeStat editor Erik Boal to discuss competing in the women's 17-18 division in the javelin throw and shot put representing Tucson Elite Athletic Club at the USATF National Junior Olympic Championships at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. Kwinn will be participating July 30 in the javelin as the top overall entry, in addition to concluding the meet Aug. 1 in the shot put. Her sister, rising junior Emerald Kwinn, will be participating in the 15-16 division July 31 in the discus throw and Aug. 1 in the shot put. Jade Kwinn finished fourth June 30 in the javelin at The Outdoor Nationals, presented by Nike, with a lifetime-best 154-10 (47.21m) at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. She improved on her own Arizona Division 3 all-time mark and improved to No. 2 in state history, trailing only Hannah Carson of Chandler High and her 2010 performance of 171-9 (52.34m). Kwinn, who ranks No. 7 in the country among prep competitors this year, is looking to secure a Junior Olympic national title after finishing second in 2019 in the 15-16 division in Sacramento. She is also looking to build on her personal-best 40-5.75 (12.34m) in the shot put from May 15 when she captured the Division 3 state championship at Desert Vista High, helping Sabino secure the team title as well. Kwinn also shares how meaningful it was to compete in Oregon wearing her custom orange kit inspired by the Friends4Michael Foundation. Kwinn explains how the foundation was created in 2003 by her brother Michael, who passed away at age 14 as a result of a brain stem tumor, and how his legacy has been carried on by the assistance and support the foundation has provided for so many families for nearly two decades. Kwinn also expresses how significant it will be to compete in one final meet with Emerald before she enrolls in college, and how proud both siblings are to represent Tucson Elite in Florida.
