Avaunt Ortiz, a junior at McClintock High in Arizona, produced the meet record in the boys 400 meters by clocking 46.69 seconds at the 82nd Nike Chandler Rotary Invitational at Austin Field at Chandler High. Ortiz, who elevated to No. 4 in Arizona prep history and was selected the male track athlete of the meet, helped McClintock place third overall in the invitational boys 4x400-meter relay after the Chargers won their section in 3:21.53. He also contributed to a 12th-place finish in the invitational boys 4x100-meter relay in 43.77.
