Sadie Engelhardt, a sophomore, and freshman teammate Aelo Curtis at Ventura High, were first and third in the Division 2 girls final at the CIF State Cross Country Championships at Woodward Park in Fresno. Engelhardt covered the 5-kilometer layout in 16:57.9 and Curtis clocked 17:42.1 to help Ventura finish fifth overall with 189 points. Engelhardt became the first girls state champion in program history after placing second last year.
