Labor Day Weekend: A-Fork leads charge at Grass Relays
By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Everyone who follows the big-name cross country programs knows American Fork in Utah. Usually, it's the highly ranked boys in the news. But at the annual late-summer season kick-off meet, The Grass Relays, the boys and girls shared the headlines. American Fork's boys, led by senior Zac Jacklin, tied the 2013 squad as the second-fastest ever on the five-person, 10-mile relay, clocking 51:48. Jacklin ran 9:57 for the fastest split of the day. Desert Hills was second with 52:58. And American Fork's girls broke the 1999 meet record by 29 seconds with an overall time of 62 minutes, 3 seconds. - Staying out west for a moment, freshman Annie Hill of Glacier (Kalispell) got off to a roaring start at the Libby Invitational on Saturday. She covered three miles in 17:31.35 to win the girls varsity race by more than a minute. Keep in mind that Hill is not the Montana freshman who made the preseason top 100. That is Bryn Morley of nearby Bigfork, who hasn't raced yet. - In Alaska, at the Kodiak Invitational on Friday, Allie Ostrander and Levi Thomet won their races handily. Ostrander, who owns the fastest 5K in the nation so far in this new season, ran 17:34 for a 2-minute victory. Thomet, of Kodiak, won by 52 seconds in 15:23. - Jesse Reiser broke 15 minutes and ran a nation-leading 14:53 at the McHenry County Meet. Check out DyeStatIL for more details. More news |
