Abdirahman, Cragg Headline World Championship Marathon TeamPublished by
Strong group seeks to make their mark in LondonBy Scott Bush, DyeStat Editor USATF announced its team of six marathoners to compete for Team USA at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships this summer in London. Leading the way is four-time Olympian Abdi Abdirahman on the men's side and two-time Olympian Amy Cragg for the women's roster. Abdirahman is joined by veterans Bobby Curtis and Augustus Maiyo, with Cragg's fellow teammates including veteran Serena Burla and relative newcomer to the marathon Laura Thweatt. Here's a quick look at the first six members of this summer's Team USA. WomenAmy CraggMarathon PR: 2:27:03 (Chicago 2014)
Placed ninth in the marathon at the Rio Olympics. Placed second in the 10,000 meters at the Payton Jordan Invitational, finishing seven seconds off her PR with a time of 31:17.20.
Serena BurlaMarathon PR: 2:26:53 (Osaka 2017)
Placed fourth overall at the Osaka International Marathon in January. Placed 10th overall in the marathon at the 2015 IAAF World Championships.
Laura ThweattMarathon PR: 2:25:38 (London 2017)
Placed sixth overall at the London Marathon in April. Has only run two marathons in her career, the other being a sub-2:30 effort at the New York City Marathon.
MenAbdi AbdirahmanMarathon PR: 2:08:56 (Chicago 2006)
Placed sixth overall at the Boston Marathon last month in 2:12:45. Finished third overall at the New York City Marathon in November in 2:11:23.
Bobby CurtisMarathon PR: 2:11:20 (Chicago 2014)
Equaled his PR of 2:11:20 at the Frankfurt Marathon in October. Most recently finished fifth overall at the Shamrock Shuffle 8K in 23:33.
Augustus MaiyoMarathon PR: 2:13:16 (Boston 2017)
Placed seventh overall at the Boston Marathon last month in 2:13:16. Took off more than five minutes from his PR in Boston. More news |
