Westlake sweeps Class 7A team titles in Georgia

It was an historic weekend for the Westlake High track and field team at the Class 7A Georgia State Championships at Berry College. Led by junior standout Kennedy Simon's three first-place finishes, the girls scored 75 points to edge Campbell (71) for the state title. The Westlake boys tallied 62 points to win the crown and make it a sweep. 

Simon won the 200 meters (23.74), 400 (52.94) and long jump (18-11.75). Her 400 time ranks in the top five nationally this season. 

Alexi Jones of Campbell won the 100 hurdles (13.86) and 300 hurdles (42.34). 

In the field events, McEachern's Victoria Agyin claimed the triple jump (40-9). 

Newton County's Elija Godwin continued to impress in the sprints, winning the 200 (21.01) and 400 (46.40), and added a triple jump title as well, leaping 47-9. 

In the hurdles, Cameron Murray of Westlake ran a personal-best time of 13.84 to win the 110-meter hurdles. Julian McDuffie of Shiloh edged Murray to win the the 300 title in 37.85. Murray was second in 37.86.

In 6A action at Grisham Stadium in Carrollton, Hope Glenn of Pope won the girls 100 (11.71), 200 (24.76). Glenn ran a personal-best 11.51 in the prelims in the 100. 

Charles Drew's Shatara Johnson claimed the long jump crown in (19-6.75). 

Hunter Mallard of Gainesville won the pole vault, clearing 16 feet. 

Alexa Rossum's wins in the 100 (11.72) and 200 (24.03), combined with freshman Kimberly Harris' 400 victory (53.80) helped guide Buford to a 5A state title, scoring 100 points. 

Darci Khan of Stockbridge clocked an impressive 13.79 PR to win the 100 hurdles. 

Buford's Erin Marsh won the 300 hurdles in 42.48. 

On the boys side, Southwest Dekalb's Terryon Conwell stole the show, winning the 100 (10.83) and 200 (21.68) and the 400 (47.59). In the prelims, Terryon ran a personal-best 100 time of 10.38. 

In 4A action at Berry College, Sheleah Harris of North Oconee won the 100 (11.66) and claimed the 200 crown as well (24.37), both personal bests.

The top performance went to Zykeria Williams of Baldwin, clocking a PR of 13.69 in the 100 hurdles to win. Kayla Alexander of Chapel Hil was second (13.86).    

At the 3A meet at Hugh Mills Stadium in Albany, Everett Smulders of The Lovett won the 1,600 in a PR of (4:15.18). 

Nathan McBridge of Vadalia won the 100 (10.77) and 200 (21.71) at the 2A level, while Sabrina Richman of South Atlanta claimed the 200 (25.25) and 400 (57.51). Vidalia's Courtney Madison won the 100 hurdles (14.00) and 300 (44.16) hurdles. 

In 1A Public action, Hunter Kimball of Georgia Military Greene claimed the 1,600 (4:34.60) and 3,200 (9:43.50) titles.

In 1A Private at Berry College, Nicole Fegans of Landmark Christian claimed the 1,600 (4:54.97) and 3,200 (10:39.92). Anna Marian Block of Athens Academy won the 800 in 2:13.60. 

Jeffrey Uzzell won the 100 (10.66) and 200 (21.49) to help Eagle's Landing Christian to a state title with 77 points.
