Alyssa Wilson now holds both indoor and outdoor national high school shot put records.

The Donovan Catholic NJ senior finally surpassed the 2014 standard held by Burke SC graduate Raven Saunders with her second-round mark of 57 feet, 1.25 inches Monday at Ocean County Championships at Jackson Liberty High. Read the recap and watch the video of the record-setting shot put from Josh Newman of the Asbury Park Press.

Wilson, a UCLA signee, set the national indoor prep record with her 57-5.50 (17.51m) performance Feb. 28 at the Eastern States Championships at The Armory in New York.

Wilson’s performance Monday was originally announced at 57-3, but the steel tape measured 57-1.25, eclipsing Saunders’ standard of 56-8.25.

In addition to the national high school record, Wilson’s performance is a World Under-20 leader this year and makes her the No. 4 all-time American U-20 performer in an outdoor ring. Wilson and Saunders are the only two American U-20 shot putters to surpass 57 feet indoors and outdoors.
