One of the Greatest Olympians Ever, Carl Lewis, to Receive USATF Legends Award

By Adam Kopet

USATF announced Tuesday that Carl Lewis will receive the USATF Legend Award at the USATF Black Tie and Sneakers Gala in November.

Lewis is a four-time Olympian, having won nine gold medals in his career, including four consecutive golds in the long jump from 1984 to 1996. Additionally, Lewis won 10 medals, including eight gold, at the IAAF World Outdoor Championships during his career.

Currently, Lewis serves as a full-time assistant coach at his alma mater, the University of Houston. The Cougars won the men's 4x100-meter relay at last year's NCAA Division 1 Outdoor Championships.

According to the USATF release, Lewis has also launched a professional track club that will primarily include former Houston athletes.
