America's Finest City produced one of its finest showcases of prep cross country talent Friday at the 70th Mt. SAC Invitational.

San Diego standouts posted the fastest boys and girls individual times on the 2.93-mile course on the meet's opening day and three of the four team sweepstakes victories were secured by section powers during their annual trips to Walnut, Calif.

La Costa Canyon won its third consecutive Division 3 girls sweepstakes title, becoming the first team to achieve the feat since Corona del Mar CA in 2005-07, led by junior Kristin Fahy repeating as champion in 16 minutes, 54.9 seconds.

Fahy's effort was the second-fastest time in division history, trailing only the 16:51 by Corona del Mar's Anne St. Geme in 2005, and the meet's No. 6 all-time performance by a junior. Oakmont CA senior Alize Hartke took runner-up to Fahy in 17:31.3.

McKenna Brown (17:56.9) and Jessica Riedman (18:11) placed fourth and seventh for La Costa Canyon, which prevailed 44-77 over Palos Verdes, despite Samantha Steman taking third in 17:46.3 and Grace Catena finishing fifth in 17:59.9 for the defending Division 3 state champions.

Cathedral Catholic CA senior Joaquin Martinez de Pinillos had the fastest boys performance, winning the Division 3 sweepstakes in 14:48.1, followed by Bakersfield Highland CA senior Moises Medrano in 14:55.7. Martinez de Pinillos rebounded after being edged at the finish line last year by Rubidoux's Erik Gonzalez by a 14:37.6 to 14:37.7 margin.

Palos Verdes CA won its first Division 3 boys sweepstakes title since 2006, securing a 112-149 victory over three-time champion Brea-Olinda CA.

Junior Teresa Perez won the Division 4-5 girls sweepstakes race in 17:50.4, leading Coronado CA to a 59-78 victory over Sage Creek CA and the Islanders' first championship since 2009. Sophie Gitlin finished third in 18:11.7, helping Division 5 Flintridge Prep CA finish third with 107 points.

Flintridge Prep senior Evan Pattinelli won the Division 4-5 boys sweepstakes in 14:49.7, helping the Division 5 Rebels place third with 133 points. Pattinelli's performance was No. 2 in program history behind Jack Van Scoter's 14:45 in 2015 and the fourth-fastest time in division history.

Sage Creek CA captured its first Division 4 boys sweepstakes team title, emerging victorious by a 90-93 margin over Cathedral CA, led by Tyriq Granillo taking third in 15:18.3. Sam Lavorato of Palma CA was the top Division 4 runner in the field, finishing second in 15:08.9.

El Dorado CA senior Lucina Vincent secured her third career Mt. SAC win, clocking 17:58.5 in a Division 3 varsity race, with University City CA junior Isabelle Shepherd earning another win for San Diego schools by prevailing in her Division 3 varsity race in 18:31.6.

St. Joseph Notre Dame CA junior Emily Perez won her Division 5 varsity race in 17:58.6 and Harvard-Westlake CA freshman Natalia Quintero was victorious in a Division 4 varsity race in 18:06.8.

El Capitan CA Matthew Machnov won his Division 3 varsity race in 15:30.6, with Bonita CA senior David Hidalgo capturing his Division 3 race in 15:35.

Avenal CA senior Mohammed Ali won a Division 4 varsity race in 15:46.8, with Trinity Classical Academy CA sophomore Hunter Romine prevailing in a Division 5 varsity race in 16:13.1.
