The Addition of Seven American Sub-Four Milers Saturday Brings Total to 501By Adam Kopet Seven Americans broke four minutes in the mile for the first time Saturday at meets across the country bringing the total number of sub-four American milers to 501, according to Track and Field News. Oregon teammates Mick Stanovsek (3:57.90) and Cooper Teare (3:59.29) became the 495th and 496th American men to break four minutes in New York City at the Dr. Sander Invitational/ Columbia Challenge. Kyle Mau of Indiana ran 3:59.15 at the Indiana University Relays to become the 497th sub-four miler. He was followed by Illinois' Jon Davis (3:58.46) at the Illini Classic as the 498th. The pros then got in on the action in Boston at the John Thomas Terrier Classic. Shadrack Kipchirchir became the 499th sub-four miler with his 3:55.52 mile win. He was followed by U.S. Army teammate Emmanuel Bor (3:58.77) to become the 500th American sub-four miler. The day ended with one more first-time sub-four performance. David Ribich of Western Oregon ran 3:58.88 at the Washington Indoor Invitational to become the 501st American to break four minutes in the mile. More news |
