Mutaz Essa Barshim Gets the High Jump World Lead at the Asian Indoor Championships

By Adam Kopet

Mutaz Essa Barshim cleared a world-leading 7-9.75 (2.38m) to win the high jump Thursday at the Asian Indoor Games.

The jumper from Bahrain surpassed the previous world-leading mark by Danil Lysenko, a neutral athlete from Russia, of 7-9.25 (2.37m). Lysenko now holds three of the top-four marks in the world so far this year.

Barshim won the high jump after his 7-2.5 (2.20m) clearance. He also took three attempts at 7-10.5 (2.40m) but he was unable to clear the bar.

For a complete recap of Thursday's action at the Asian Indoor Games, see the IAAF report.
