NYRR Millrose Games Performances Earn This Week's Performance of the Week Awards

Track and field fans voiced their choices in this week's DyeStat's Performance of the Week poll, while DyeStat's editors made their own selection.

Readers’ Choice: Brodey Hasty

With 27.68 percent of the vote, Brodey Hasty won our Readers’ Choice vote, beating Karissa Schweizer with her second-place tally of 25.95 percent.

The Brentwood TN senior made his second attempt at breaking four minutes for the mile at the Armory in as many weeks, this time at the NYRR Millrose Games. Rather than race in the high school mile, Hasty competed in the Invitational mile against a field of primarily professional athletes.

Hasty stayed in the middle of the pack for much of the race as he attempted to run his race and not let the fast early pacing torpedo his chances at breaking the elusive four-minute barrier. He pushed forward over the closing laps, striving to cross the line in under four minutes.

In the end, Hasty finished fifth with a time of 4:00.05, just off his goal. However, his time elevates him to #3 all-time indoors for the high school boys mile, behind Drew Hunter and Alan Webb.

This race shows that Hasty is capable of breaking four minutes for the mile. It seems likely he will find the right race, if not indoors, then outdoors this spring or summer. It appears the University of Oregon will have another sub-four miler on campus next fall.

Editors’ Choice: Shaunae Miller-Uibo

What a week! This week's list saw 11 top-10 all-time performances in high school, collegiate or world rankings.

In the high school ranks, Hasty moved up to #3 indoors in the mile, but the Bullis MD boys and Arria Minor also entered entered the top-10 all-time rankings in the 4x200 relay and the 200 meters, respectively.

The collegians also got in on the action. Karissa Schweizer, the Missouri senior, broke the collegiate 3,000-meter record at the NYRR Millrose Games. LSU's Mikiah Brisco now stands at #2 all-time in the 60 meters. Olivia Gruver and Divine Oduduru also took over top three all-time positions in the pole vault and 200 meters, respectively.

However, this week's award came down to two professional performances. The USA Women broke the world record in the 4x800 relay at the NYRR Millrose Games. The quartet of Chrishuna Williams, Raevyn Rogers, Charlene Lipsey and Ajee' Wilson ran 8:05.89, breaking the former record, held by Russia since 2011, of 8:06.24.

Then there was Shaunae Miller-Uibo, tying the world best in the 300 meters, running 35.45. The 300 meters is not a record eligible event, according to the IAAF. Irina Privalova of Russia ran the same time in 1993. Prior to Saturday, no one else had come within 0.2 seconds of Privalova's mark.

Both marks are impressive, but this week's award goes to Miller-Uibo for challenging a 25-year-old world best.
