Hasty will pass on Tennessee state meet in pursuit of becoming third prep to run sub-4 indoor mile

Brentwood TN senior Brodey Hasty, an Oregon signee, has entered the Boston University Last Chance meet Sunday to take another attempt at running under 4 minutes in the indoor mile. He passed on running in the Tennessee indoor state meet to instead compete against a field of collegiate and professional athletes.

Hasty clocked 4:00.05 on Feb. 3 at the NYRR Millrose Games at The Armory in New York to become the No. 3 high school performer all-time indoors. He is looking to become the 11th prep athlete in history to produce a sub-4 clocking indoors or outdoors.

If Hasty is successful, it would mark the fourth consecutive year that a high school athlete would run under 4 minutes in the mile.

Matthew Maton of Summit OR and Grant Fisher of Grand Blanc MI accomplished the feat in 2015, Drew Hunter of Loudoun Valley VA and Michael Slagowski of Rocky Mountain ID joined the group in 2016 and Reed Brown of Southlake Carroll TX made history last year.
