Gwen Jorgensen to Make Half Marathon Debut at USATF Half Marathon ChampionshipsBy Adam Kopet Gwen Jorgensen will make her half marathon debut May 6 in Pittsburgh at the USATF Half Marathon Championships, according to a press release. Jorgensen won 2016 Olympic gold in the triathlon. She announced her retirement from triathlon last fall and made the decision to pursue distance running as part of the Bowerman Track Club. She began her transition after taking time off to have a baby. Jorgensen's long term goal is to win Olympic gold in the marathon in 2020. However, the 31-year old is not jumping into full marathon training just yet. She won the Stanford Invitational 10,000 meters last month, running 31:55.68. Whenever Jorgensen does tackle the marathon, it will not be her first. She finished 14th at the 2016 New York City Marathon, running 2:41:01. That performance was based on her triathlon fitness. The USATF Half Marathon Championships are part of the DICK’S Sporting Goods Pittsburgh Marathon. More news |
