Jakob and Henrik Ingebrigtsen Win Top Races at Stanford

Seventeen-year old Norwegian Jakob Ingebrigtsen beat a loaded field in the 1,500 meters that included U.S. Olympians Paul Chelimo and Matthew Centrowitz on Thursday night, running 3:39.06 at the Payton Jordan Invitational. 

Soon after, his Jakob's older brother, Henrik, won the a razor-close 5,000 meters by five-thousandths of a second, in 13:16.97. He edged out Riley Masters, the winner of last week's USATF 1 Mile Road Championship in Des Moines, Iowa. The margin between first and second was 13:16.964 to 13:16.969.

Syracuse senior Justyn Knight ran a collegiate-leading time of 13:18.74 for third place.   

In the top section of the men's 1,500 meters, Jakob Ingebrigtsen closed in 55.239 seconds on his final lap -- faster than anyone else. Chelimo was second in 3:40.16. Centrowitz, the Olympic champion in Rio, was sixth in 3:40.74. 

Jessica Tonn of Brooks Beasts ran a U.S.-leading time of 31.54.83 in her first 10,000-meter race since 2015.

Ednah Kurgat of New Mexico ran the fastest college time this season in the women's 5,000 meters, running 15:20.06 for seventh place. Meraf Bahta edged Rachel Schneider for the win in 15:15.33. 

Shadrack Kipchirchir won the men's 10,000 meters in 27:39.65. Tyler Day of Northern Arizona ran a college-leading time of 28:04.44 for fifth. 

Marie Bouchard of San Francisco won the top section of the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase in 9:41.32, the No. 2 collegiate time this season.
