Yucaipa Star Asani Hampton Runs No. 2 Wind-Legal 100-Meter Time in California History at Citrus Belt League FinalsPublished by
Hampton narrowly misses California’s all-time wind-legal sprint mark set by Thomas in 1985 By Erik Boal, DyeStat Editor Yucaipa CA senior Asani Hampton demonstrated Thursday he is ready for the postseason to begin. Hampton, a Michigan signee, challenged the California state 100-meter dash record at the Citrus Belt League championship in the final meet on his home track, running a wind-legal 10.26 seconds.
Hampton’s performance is the No. 2 wind-legal effort in California history, moving ahead of former Vista Murrieta star and USC sophomore Michael Norman and trailing only the 1985 mark of 10.25 produced by Hawthorne’s Henry Thomas. Hampton’s effort was No. 9 all-time in California under all conditions. Javelin Guidry of Vista Murrieta won the state title last year with a 10.13 performance that was aided by a +3.8 mps wind. Hampton, who ranks No. 4 in the country this year in the 100, ran equal to the No. 28 all-time prep performer. He added a victory in the 200 in 21.17, a wind-legal personal best and the No. 22 wind-legal effort nationally. Hampton ran a wind-aided 20.94 last year at the CIF-Southern Section Division 1 prelims. Hampton will compete at the division prelims May 12 at Trabuco Hills High in Mission Viejo. More news |
